Ohio State School Board Members

Rumor Rumor

Consistent with a recent column written by a former top staffer, 3rd Rail understands Governor John Kasich has requested the Ohio House introduce a bill this week to abolish the State School Board.  Like Governors before him, Kasich’s proposals would make the Ohio Department of Education a more garden variety cabinet agency, with a Director he appoints.

This would also place greater accountability on the Governor for the state’s education system, as opposed to diffusing responsibility among a board of (some) elected, but obscure, low grade politicians who for the most part lack serious education credentials.

If a bill is introduced this week, 3rd Rail suspects the hearing process could begin now with any serious action deferred to the end-of-year lame duck session.
